About Good Neighbours

First, have a look at our ‘Welcome to Good Neighbours’ video.

Established in 2016, we are an outreach of the Orthodox Church in Scarborough, and we welcome any person from Scarborough regardless of their religion, social status or ethnic background. Each person, we believe, is of infinite value and therefore worthy of unconditional respect.

As a social service open to all in Scarborough, we act out of the belief that there is at the heart of each person beauty and goodness, and that the human person cannot be ever fully understood, defined, or labelled. We believe that in every encounter between people, there is a great mystery some call God. We seek to build community among people using the gifts that each person brings.

Our purpose is to be and to build an inclusive community through the gifts and the needs that each of us brings. This Community of Love is a place of healing and nourishment occurring through awakening the God-given dignity and value of each person, while responding to each person’s needs.

“In the gospel of Judgment Day, Christ does not tell us that we have to heal the sick, but to visit them. He does not tell us that we need to solve the problem of inequity in the world, but to share with the one that comes our way. He does not tell us that we need to change the justice system, but to reach out to those whose freedom was taken away, by sharing with them the freedom of being together. The care and the good news of the gospel are personal.”
